Online community minube.net included this Colombian city in the Huffington Post's list.
Cartagena de Indias was listed among the top 50 destinations around the world according to online daily The Huffington Post, based on a list by specialist bloggers from the travel site minube.net.
Cartagena ranks 36th among the 50 cities tourists must visit at least once in their lives, together with destinations like Venice, Rome, Paris, London, Morocco, Grenada, Rio de Janeiro, or Kyoto. “The colonial city of Cartagena de Indias in the Caribbean coast of Colombia has a history starring explorers, pirates, and royalty. According to the web site, “This charming old city, recognized by the UNESCO, has everything you would expect". The site features a photo depicting traditional colonial houses in Cartagena de Indias' historical downtown, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 1984.
The city and its unique experiences are part of the “Colombia is Magical Realism" campaign by Proexport Colombia, the office in charge of attracting foreign direct investment, supporting non-mining and non-energy exports, and promoting the country as an international tourism destination.
Its 500-year colonial architecture blends with Republican and modern constructions to frame a bustling night life, cultural festivals, breath-taking landscapes, magnificent beaches, amazing gastronomic options, and a prominent hotel and tourism infrastructure.
“ Cartagena de Indias is the second most visited destination in Colombia after Bogota. The city grants unique experiences for foreigners, ranging from tours across the walled city, sun and beach, parks and water sports, among others", stated the President of Proexport Colombia, Maria Claudia Lacouture.
